Bryn and Tyler have been the best of friends since they were born. I guess they never really had a choice. Tyler’s dad is one of Brad’s closet friends. John and Brad went to Iraq together in 2003. As you can imagine Brad and John become even closer during this time. However, it was here in the states where a new life long bond was being made.
Leah and I had known each other for just under a year when the guys left for Iraq. We had already became friends and often spent drill weekends together but it was not until the guys left that we started to become more like sisters. Both Leah and I handled the deployment like textbook military wives, acting as if it was part of everyday life.
In 2003 the only source of information on how the guys were doing came from the media so for us, no news was good news. The guys got to call once a month if were we lucky and it took a miracle for the call to be clear enough to hear each other. Due to the communication issue Brad and John started alternating their phone calls and each one would pass on a message for the other ones wife. For Leah and I, it did not matter who got the call just so that we knew that the guys were doing alright and using this method we got to hear from them every two weeks. It was from relaying these messages, which brought the other so much comfort, that our friendship began to grow but today it is even stronger!
So for our kids, well they had to be friends but the wonderful part is that we never had to force them! As a matter of fact, you could ask Tyler or Bryn about their wedding and they could give you every detail!! I am not kidding, when we took Bryn to Disney last year she cried because Tyler was not there to marry her. Though this love affair is just childhood fantasy I always enjoying watching them play together. They really do love each other and others could learn a lot about friendship by watching them.
Kylie and Bryle are a little younger but today as I watched them play in the back yard I could already see that bond begging to form.
